Limoncello Citrus Gin and Tonic

Who loves gin and is looking for a sparkly summertime beverage? One of my best friends absolutely adores gin cocktails, so when I was planning my 30th birthday bar menu, I had to include a refreshing and citrusy cocktail for my gin loving ladies and to welcome the warmer weather! 

For my Goddess of Spring Birthday Party, we named it Suitcase of Summer, which was perfect for the combo of lemon, lime and mint. The floral and herbal notes in the gin were sweetened by the limoncello, with the mint adding a perfect refreshing endnote. I also used just a splash of lime juice which was just right for brightening up and complementing the lemony goodness of the limoncello, as we all know lemon and lime is a lovely combo!

While designing cocktails for my party, I designed them in batches so I could serve cocktails in Labelled Bottles during the party, so I have included both the batch recipe and single drink cocktail recipes.

I’m sure there’s lots of great mixers out there, but ever since I started playing around testing cocktails, I’ve always loved the Fever-Tree Mixers for my own cocktails and this Citrus Tonic Water was the perfect addition to add even more citrus notes to this sunny sip, though both their Elderflower or Traditional Tonic Waters would be a fun twist on my recipe that would be delicious as well!

When I was shopping for the liquor to test and design these drinks, I went to my local store and started reading labels to decide! In the end I chose Oxley Cold Infused Gin, mainly because the description told of zesty notes of lemon and juniper and well as the traditional botanicals in London Dry Gins. While I can’t say I tested gins to find out, this one was so smooth and delicious in our drinks that almost everyone commented on how tasty they were and couldn’t believe that the drinks were so strong because they didn’t taste like it!

With that in mind, it’s worth warning your friends that they are on the more alcoholic side, because a dozen of us went through three bottles of this mix when we had two other cocktails to serve with it!


INGREDIENTS

SINGLE COCKTAIL:
(stirred and served on ice)


  • 3-4 sprigs fresh mint

  • 200 ml Gin

  • 200 ml Limoncello

  • 50 ml lime juice

  • 400 ml Citrus Tonic Water

BATCH COCKTAIL:
(shaken & stored in 1L Bottle)


  • 1 sprig fresh mint

  • 2 parts Gin

  • 2 parts Limoncello

  • ½ part lime juice

  • 4 parts Citrus Tonic Water

PREPARATION

  1. Gently muddle the mint to crush the leaves, then steep in Gin for 5-6 minutes

  2. Remove mint and mix in Limoncello and Lime Juice.

  3. Transfer mixture to a swing top bottle if you are making a bulk batch or a cocktail glass with ice if you are making a single drink.

  4. Top the mixture with citrus tonic water and gently stir to incorporate (or swirl in the swing top bottle). Store your bottle in the fridge until ready to drink and serve with mint if desired.
