When it comes to theme parties, I love traveling down the rabbit hole to plan creative and memorable parties for my favorite people! So when my bestie wanted an Alice and Wonderland themed dinner party, I knew it was the perfect time to pull some of my favorite decorations out of my party closet and put my creations to good use again, with all the queen of hearts and mad hatter vibes! From a three course meal with a royal rose and playing card tablescape to a poker tournament in a floral tea party basement; it was a party perfectly fit for this Queen of Hearts to show some love instead of lopping heads and for my birthday Alice to feel like the queen of the night!

DECORATIONS & DETAILS

QUEEN OF HEARTS DINING ROOM

To start the evening, my guests and the birthday girl began in my Queen of Hearts inspired dining room for a three course meal with wine pairings, and the centerpiece of this magnificent meal has to be the tablescape! I used some of the many extra playing cards I had when creating my Wax Stamped Floral Patterned Playing Cards for my Vintage Victorian Cocktail Party last fall to create an easy table runner down the center of the table, using tape to attach them on the bottom side of the cards until it was as long as I liked. Topping my table runner with my trusty Glass Cylinders and LED Candles I wrapped them with some long black gauzy fabric from my Halloween decorations and finished in by tucking some trimmed red rose bulbs to finish a centerpiece fit for my royal dining room!

For my place settings, I made some simple wine pairing dinner menus in gold foil cardstock from some extra I had as well as some glitter red cardstock in my Cricut Everything Materials Bundle, designing the menu card in Canva, and cutting them out with my lovely Cricut Maker Craft Cutter! These were perfectly displayed on a beautiful black charger with gold rimmed china, finished in true queen of hearts style with a rose folded red napkin and gold cutlery. For my birthday girl’s spot, she was greeted with a dozen trimmed roses to take home, compliments of the Queen of Hearts, my character of the evening!

MAD HATTER’S POKER TEA PARTY

Once our royal meal was concluded we all headed to the basement that had been bedecked in all sorts of floral decor from past parties, turning it into a lovely Mad Hatter inspired room to play some poker! My Hanging Wisteria Fairy Light Flower Curtain made a reappearance from its first outing as a karaoke backdrop for my Vintage Victorian Cocktail Party, coming back now as a lovely photo area and wall divider for the poker area. Sealing Wax Wine Bottle Candle Holders with LED Taper Candles were mixed amongst wine bottles full of Clovers, Berry Pods, and other Silk Filler Flowers, creating the perfect place for our poker tournament with the feel of being in a Wonderlanderful garden!

It wouldn’t be a real tea party without teacups, and while cocktails were the name of the game instead of a warm brew, the Limoncello Citrus Gin and Tonic made a reappearance from my Goddess of Spring Birthday Party by special request as its still a favorite of all my friends to this day!

FOOD & DRINKS

What was for dinner? I’m glad you asked! Since I had a couple vegetarians at this dinner party, I chose my meal based both on cozy fall favorites but also steered clear of meat when planning the menu! The meal started with a delicious Leek and Potato Soup, paired with some flaky Baker’s Croissants. Up next was the main entree, and the Pumpkin Ravioli with Sage Butter Sauce that was perfect not only for a savory fall entree, but the pretty pattern on the pasta gave just the whimsical touch I wanted for my wonderland theme! To crown the meal, it was finished with royal looking chocolate mini bundt cakes topped with the birthday girl’s favorite, a chocolate covered strawberry!

GUEST FAVORS

I wasn’t the only lady crafting cocktails for this party, my birthday girl showed up with little boozy party favors for all her guests! Bedecked as the adorable “Drink Me” bottles and filled with a shimmery shooter, it was a wonderful way to show her own creativity and thank her guests for their presence and gifts. I loved the little detail and our friends loved drinking them together before our first dealer started the game of the evening!

After many rounds of poker and many cups of “tea,” my party guests dispersed for their own stories and my birthday Alice headed home with her roses from the Queen for a new year in reality, with Wonderlanderful memories for the adventures to come!
